In Support of ACOG’s 2026 Maternal Immunization Schedule

Pregnancy is a naturally immunosuppressive condition, making pregnant people more susceptible to infections that can harm both patient and fetus. Clinicians are in a position to assess, inform and protect their patients from vaccine-preventable illness.

In an effort to combat vaccine misinformation originating from the US federal government, which is causing confusion among patients and clinicians, the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) has released its 2026 maternal immunization schedule that differs from current federal vaccine recommendations. This schedule is endorsed by thirteen professional organizations including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

The WHN joins these organizations in recognizing ACOG’s initiative and in endorsing this science-based vaccination schedule. We encourage these organizations to take infection prevention one step further by advising pregnant patients to use effective respiratory protection as an additional layer against airborne illnesses, and by supporting its use in healthcare settings.
